Loud Fuel’s Involvement in the Biodiesel Industry
Loud Fuel is a true family-run, local business that is doing what it can to make a difference for both local consumers and the environment in which they reside.

The company is riding a wave of the future as the area’s number one seller of biodiesel fuels. Bio-diesel fuel, a product made from processed vegetable oil, burns cleaner and reduces emissions. It works well in regular fuel burners and it blends with conventional petroleum-based fuel, actually improving its performance, especially in low-sulfur diesel because it puts back the lubrication that is reduced when sulfur is taken out. These fuels are plant-based and they dramatically reduce harmful emissions. Thus, Loud Fuel is helping the environment while reducing dependence on foreign oil.

Manager Kabraul Tasha says he first learned about biodiesel from The Cape and Islands Self-Reliance Co-op, (an oil-buying co-op). He explains that all of the fuel he puts out is a minimum of 5% biodiesel and that Loud fuel customers do not pay extra for this. Customers also have a choice to move up to a higher blend. While biodiesel is still a small part of Loud Fuel's business, it is growing all the time, as more people learn about it.

The company recently won an Energy Star Award for its work using and promoting biodiesel fuel. Kabraul proudly points out that Loud Fuel sold more than a quarter-million gallons of biodiesel fuel over the last three years.

“I run my whole operation on 20% biodiesel fuel because I believe in it,” Kabraul says. While it is slightly more expensive than petroleum-based fuel, Kabraul thinks it is well worth the price. “It’s that much less you’re spending overseas,” he says, “It’s money we’re keeping in the U.S.”
